Tk 80 lakh graft: Suspended DIG prisons sent to jail after surrender

The Dhaka court has today ordered the suspended deputy inspector general (DIG) of prisons Partha Gopal Banik in jail after he appeared before it in a matter regarding the seizure of Tk. 80 million from his residence at Dhaka.

Judge Shaikh Nazmul Alam from the Special Judge's Court 4 of Dhaka made the decision after Partha Gopal surrendered in front of the court according to the instructions of the High Court.

On September 2nd on September 2, the HC bench, headed by Justice M Enayetur Rahim, issued a brief verdict, rescinding an order issued by Judge Md Iqbal Hossain from the special judge's court in Dhaka Court-5 which allowed Partha release from the corruption trial, stating that the decision was made using the "unusual manner".

The bench pronounced the verdict in appeal, the court also directed to order the suspended DIG to appear before the trial court in question on September 20th in connection with the matter.
